Sergiy Bratkov
Sergiy Bratkov (1960, Kharkiv) is a multimedia artist and curator. Representative of the Kharkiv School of Photography. He received engineering training at the faculty of electrical engineering at Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute (today the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”) in 1978–1983. He didn’t give up art, trying his hand at photography, graphics, and painting at the same time. In the late 1980s, Bratkov became a member of the Gosprom group and, in 1988, joined the “Litera A” art group, where he was mainly present as a painter. This fact brightly illustrates the author’s creative method, who attempts to combine various media in his art—from sculpture (freezing photographs in the blocks of ice or turning them into lollipops) to performance (as a member of the “Fast Reaction Group). In the early 1990s, he was one of the artists who managed the Up/Down Gallery, which was the first contemporary art space in Kharkiv. In the 2000s, Bratkov moved to Moscow, where he resided until 2022. There he worked at the Rodchenko Moscow School of Photography and Multimedia as a master of the “Photography, Sculpture, and Video” class.
