Folk portraits

According to the author, “The series was created in the period, when I got interested in social reportage, social portrage with critical angle. It consists of approximately 50 images. Some of them had been taken on colour film, but consequently printed as black and white. I mostly photographed on the streets, at cafes or at my friends’ and fellow’s homes. The crucial part was finding the right format of presenting the shots, as Roman Pyatkovka’s first wife, Svitlana, once said about the works: “It seems you were looking at all these through a key hole”. This association evolved into the idea with circle form. What is more, such form allowed to focus only on the most important details, leaving the rest literary beyond the circle.”
