A New Photo Book by Oleksandr Chekmenev

Faces of War is the new book by Ukrainian photographer Oleksandr Chekmenev, documenting the consequences of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The publication consists of two parts. The first part includes 24 portraits of Kyiv residents, which were published in The New York Times Magazine at the beginning of the war in 2022. The second part of the book consists of 53 portraits of people who survived the occupation. Their stories bear witness to the war crimes committed by Russian invaders against the civilian population of Ukraine.
